The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, has joined the United States in supporting the nomination of Jim Yong Kim to head the World Bank.

“Mr. Kim is a distinguished figure in global health and development, noted for his innovative work fighting the spread of AIDS and tuberculosis in developing countries,” said Minister Flaherty. “We believe he is a strong candidate to lead the World Bank.”

The World Bank Group’s Executive Board of Directors will select its next President in April in a process that Minister Flaherty expects “will be conducted in a manner that is open, transparent and merit-based.”

Last month, World Bank President Robert Zoellick announced that he would be stepping down on
June 30, 2012.
