The Department of Finance today released proposed draft regulations necessary to facilitate, effective September 1, 2010, the June 17, 2010 decision by the Government of Ontario to offer relief equivalent to the provincial portion of the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) for status Indians in Ontario.

The attached draft regulations include proposed new rules and amendments to existing regulations that are required to enable HST registrants that offer the provincial relief at the point-of-sale to report and claim the amounts relieved with the Canada Revenue Agency. Comments on the proposed regulations will be accepted until September 30, 2010. The Government will then consider these comments and submit draft regulations for approval by the Governor in Council at an early opportunity. Comments may be submitted to or to:
