Minister of Finance to Deliver Fall Economic Statement

Ottawa, ON — Minister of Finance Bill Morneau will table the Fall Economic Statement (FES) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, November 1, 2016.

The Department of Finance Canada will be holding a lock-up that includes an embargoed background briefing for media, prior to the tabling of the FES. The lock-up will end when a designated Department of Finance Canada official in the lock-up announces that the embargo is lifted, at approximately 3:20 p.m.

Recommended arrival: 11:45 a.m.
Embargoed reading begins: 12:15 p.m.
Background briefing by Department of Finance Canada officials: 12:45 p.m.

Embargo Procedures:

Media representatives should present themselves at the entrance of Room 237–C in Centre Block for the embargoed reading and background briefing at 11:45 a.m.

Media will be asked to sign an undertaking to respect the embargo prior to being allowed entry into the briefing room. They will be asked to hand in their cellphones, BlackBerries and other communication devices and will not be allowed to leave, or communicate with anyone outside the lock-up, at any time prior to the announcement of the lifting of the embargo inside the lock-up.

Wifi will be available in the lock-up once the embargo is lifted at around 3:20 p.m. after the Minister rises in the House of Commons and tables the FES. As well, hardwire internet connections will be available through the Press Gallery.

The background briefing with Department of Finance Canada officials will be on a deep background, not-for-attribution basis only (no quotes or references to government officials).

The embargoed reading is for journalists only and they will be permitted to bring their lunch into the lock-up.

The embargo will be in place until the designated Department of Finance Canada official announces it is lifted in the lock-up after the Minister stands in the House of Commons and tables the FES.
