G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting,

February 5-6, 2010

Canada will host a meeting of G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors in Iqaluit, Nunavut, on February 5-6, 2010. The meeting will commence with a working dinner on Friday and conclude with a joint press conference for G7 Finance Ministers in the early afternoon on Saturday.

Registration and Accreditation

Media representatives planning to cover these meetings must be registered, accredited and hold a valid G7 media identification badge to have access to the facilities.

Accreditation is open to all bona fide news organizations. Freelance media representatives must be sponsored by a recognized news organization and attach a letter of assignment to the accreditation form.

For accreditation purposes, all media representatives are requested to complete an online registration form available at

before January 25, 2010
. In addition to personal data, the following information will be required to complete your online registration:

  • A digital photograph
  • Image File Format: JPEG format
  • Image resolution: 300 pixels in width x 350 pixels in height (minimum size) or larger size, keeping the same width/height ratio.
  • A letter of credentials from the Director/Editor in Chief of the media organization, on official letterhead and duly signed. Please also note that the letter file format should be JPEG or PDF.

Registrants are not required to submit a passport-type photograph or a photograph that has been taken by a professional photographer. However, the photograph must meet the following criteria:

  • Show a full front view of head and shoulders.
  • Use a plain, contrasting background without shadows.
  • Do not wear a hat. Eyes should be clearly visible and should not appear to be red.
  • The photo should have been taken within the last six (6) months.
  • Size: the photo should be no larger than 45 mm (531 pixel) x 57 mm (673 pixel) (1 3/4" x 2 1/4"). The head in the photograph must be at least 30 mm (354 pixel) (1 3/16") high. Photo should be saved in JPG format, named LASTNAME-FIRSTNAME-DATEOFBIRTH.jpg.
  • Digitally produced photos are acceptable provided all other requirements are met.

Accreditation confirmation will be issued only after a security screening performed by the Canadian government competent authorities and confirmed by national governments. ID badges will be available for collection beginning on Thursday, February 4, 2010 on at the Frobisher Inn, Astro Hill Terrace, Iqaluit, Nunavut, from 09:00 until 19:00.

Media Centre

A media centre will be made available to all accredited media in the Baffin Room and Kivalliq Room at the Frobisher Inn.  The Canadian media relations office will be set up in the Kitikmeot Room.

The media centre hours of operation:

  • Thursday February 4 from 09:00 to 19:00
  • Friday, February 5 from 08:00 to midnight
  • Saturday, February 6 from 07:00 to 20:00
  • Sunday, February 7 from 08:00 to 12:00

Please be aware that workspaces are limited. The G7 Secretariat will try to accommodate as many news organizations as possible. It should be noted that completion of the registration form is not a guarantee of accreditation or allocation of space in the Media Centre.

The media centre will be equipped with a limited number of data lines and power outlets for laptops. A limited number of telephones and a fax machine will also be available.

Note: The remote location of Iqaluit does present some communications challenges. Not all cellular telephone services are supported in the territory. Please check with your provider for more information. As well, due to other conditions, normal telephone and Internet service may be interrupted.

News conferences will take place on Saturday, February 6 at the Cadet Hall.

Accommodations

Travel Arrangements

Travel arrangements are the responsibility of media representatives.

Media from outside Canada require a valid passport or appropriate travel documentation to enter Canada.

Arrival in Canada

Please note that a valid passport or appropriate travel documentation is required to enter Canada.  For information on Canadian entry requirements, participants should contact the closest Canadian Mission or visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website at www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp

If visas are required, applicants are advised to apply at least one month in advance of travel to allow for processing.  Passports must be valid for a minimum of six months before entry to Canada.

Iqaluit is subject to extremely cold temperatures. Media representatives should ensure they obtain adequate winter wear prior to arrival.
