Ministers host pre-budget consultations across Canada

January 12, 2015 – Ottawa, Ontario – Department of Finance

The Harper Government today announced that over the next few weeks, the following Ministers and Members of Parliament will be hosting roundtable discussions across the country as part of pre-budget consultations (see list below).

These roundtable consultations, which began last November, allow Canadians to provide valuable input on how the Government can continue to create jobs, grow the economy and help ensure long-term prosperity.

This is in addition to online consultations being conducted by Finance Minister Joe Oliver. These online consultations seek the input of Canadians on five key questions.

Quick Facts

  • The Canadian economy has posted one of the strongest job creation records in the Group of Seven (G-7) over the recovery, with more than 1.2 million jobs created since July 2009.
  • The Government will balance the federal budget in 2015, and deliver close to $27 billion in tax relief and increased benefits for hard-working families over this year and the next five years.
  • The Government is supporting families through proposals to increase and expand the Universal Child Care Benefit, introduce the Family Tax Cut, and increase the Child Care Expense Deduction dollar limits.

Quotes

"These consultations are key to ensuring that we take into account the views of Canadians and that our Economic Action Plan continues to create jobs and opportunities across the country."

- Joe Oliver, Minister of Finance

"Families, businesses and community organizations help keep Canada's economy on track and our communities strong. That's why our Government always seeks input from Canadians. I look forward to our continued discussion across the country as we move Canada towards greater prosperity in 2015."

- Kevin Sorenson, Minister of State (Finance)
