Harper Government Announces Date for Economic Action Plan 2013

The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today announced that he will present Economic Action Plan 2013 on March 21 in the House of Commons at approximately 4 p.m. EDT. He also marked the conclusion of pre-budget consultations with Canadians after meeting with representatives of CIVIX, a national, charitable organization whose mission is to grow young Canadians into engaged, committed and active citizens.

“In the face of a fragile global economy, the Harper Government is preparing for the upcoming budget with a focus on supporting economic growth and job creation and returning to balanced budgets by 2015,” said Minister Flaherty. “During the pre-budget consultations, we heard from Canadians across the country on how best to achieve these objectives. I would like to thank all Canadians and organizations, like CIVIX, who contributed their views and engaged in this important dialogue.”

This year’s consultations featured a series of cross-Canada roundtables hosted alternately by Minister Flaherty, the Honourable Ted Menzies, Minister of State (Finance), and Parliamentary Secretary Shelly Glover. In addition, Canadians were invited to submit their pre-budget priorities online through the Department of Finance website.

“As always, our Government’s top priority is jobs, growth and long-term prosperity,” said Minister Flaherty. “Those who took part in this year’s consultations can be assured that their ideas are being carefully considered as we develop Economic Action Plan 2013 in this difficult and uncertain global economic environment.”

All Department of Finance publications can be viewed free of charge on the Department’s website, including Economic Action Plan 2013, which will be made available shortly after it is tabled.
