The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today announced the appointment of Nicholas Wemyss to the Board of Directors of the Canada Development Investment Corporation (CDIC).
“I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Wemyss to the Board of CDIC,” said Minister Flaherty. “Mr. Wemyss has had an accomplished career as an executive in Canada’s energy sector and has been a leader in his community. His extensive professional background makes him an ideal choice for this position.”
Mr. Wemyss’ professional experience comprises high-level executive positions including Chief Operating Officer of Profound Energy Inc., Chief Operating Officer and Vice President Exploration of Find Energy Ltd., and Vice President Exploration of Blue Mountain Energy Ltd.
CDIC is a federal Crown corporation established in 1982, with a mandate to hold and manage in a commercial manner certain commercial interests of the federal government. Canada Hibernia Holding Corporation, which manages the federal government’s 8.5 per cent interest in the Hibernia oil project, is CDIC’s largest subsidiary.

Nicholas Wemyss is a Professional Geologist registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta as well as a life member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists. He has held various high-level positions in Canada’s energy sector. Most recently, Mr. Wemyss was Chief Operating Officer, Executive Vice President and a director of Profound Energy Inc., a company involved in the exploration, development and production of crude oil and natural gas in the western provinces. He was also Chief Operating Officer and Vice President Exploration of Find Energy Ltd. and Vice President Exploration of Blue Mountain Energy Ltd
Mr. Wemyss has also been actively involved in community development. In addition to being a founder and past president of the Calgary Science Centre, he has been involved with the Calgary Youth Science Fair for the past 31 years, served on the Board of Directors of Foothills Academy, a school for children with learning disabilities, and was president of the James River Community Association. He currently sits on the board of the Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society in Victoria and is active with the Society for the Advancement of Young Scientists on Vancouver Island.
