The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today welcomed the Royal Assent of the Jobs and Growth Act, 2012.

“I am pleased that our Government’s Jobs and Growth Act, 2012 has received Royal Assent,” said Minister Flaherty. “This legislation will play an essential role in maintaining our Government’s focus on securing jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for all Canadians.”

The Jobs and Growth Act, 2012 implements key measures from the Government’s March budget, Economic Action Plan 2012. It will bolster Canada’s economy and help improve communities across Canada through initiatives that create jobs, support families, promote clean energy, enhance the neutrality of the tax system, and respect taxpayers’ dollars.

Key measures in the Act include:

  • Extending for one year the job-creating Hiring Credit for Small Business, which benefitted nearly 534,000 employers last year;
  • Supporting families and communities by improving Registered Disability Savings Plans; and
  • Helping Canadians save for retirement by implementing the tax framework for Pooled Registered Pension Plans.
