The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today welcomed the appointment of Jim Yong Kim as the new President of the World Bank Group. Mr. Kim will assume his new position effective July 1, 2012.
“I am pleased that the World Bank Group’s Board of Directors has selected Mr. Kim as President following an open and merit-based process,” said Minister Flaherty. “I am confident that Mr. Kim will be a strong leader in ensuring the World Bank remains effective in addressing the complex economic and development challenges facing the international community.”
Minister Flaherty is Canada’s Governor at the World Bank, where Canada is currently the seventh largest shareholder.
