The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today hosted a pre-budget consultation in Vancouver, British Columbia, with Canadian business, academic, labour and other leaders as part of a series of discussions on how the next phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan will continue to shape the country’s economic future in Budget 2011.

“The recommendations made during the consultations will help shape the next phase of the Government’s Economic Action Plan and the return to fiscal balance,” said Minister Flaherty. “Importantly, we will continue to follow the vigilant and responsible approach that has put Canada in a position to lead the industrialized world out of recession and into recovery.”

These pre-budget consultations complement the broad economic consultations that the Prime Minister and individual Members of Parliament are conducting across the country to listen to Canadians. The Minister’s consultations include a number of roundtables with Canadians and continued consultation with his Economic Advisory Council.

As part of efforts to listen to a wide variety of opinions, the Government is also conducting online consultations.
