The Department of Finance today launched consultations on international assistance payments made under the Department’s administration. The Web consultations, a requirement of the Official Development Assistance Accountability Act for all federal departments and agencies with foreign aid responsibilities, will provide organizations and agencies in Canada and abroad with the opportunity to comment on the international assistance payments delivered by the Department of Finance.

The consultations, which will run until December 31, adhere to requirements under the Act that ministers responsible for international assistance consult on the effectiveness of their efforts in contributing to global poverty reduction, consider the perspectives of the poor in their approach, and adhere to international human rights standards.

Areas covered in the consultations include bilateral and multilateral debt relief, arrears clearance, and the Government of Canada’s contribution to the International Development Association of the World Bank.

The consultations are open to all interested parties, including Canadian civil society organizations, governments and international agencies. Further information on the consultation process, including registration requirements, can be found at http://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/inter_aid-eng.asp
