The Honourable Jim Flaherty, Minister of Finance, today nominated André Juneau for the position of Director representing Canada and Morocco at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
"Given his extensive and diverse experience within the Government of Canada, Mr. Juneau will serve the country and the EBRD well in his new role," said Minister Flaherty. "Canada fully supports the Bank's efforts to encourage more open market-oriented economies in Central and Eastern European countries."
Mr. Juneau has more than 30 years of experience with the federal government, most recently as the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Canada. After beginning his career with the Department of Finance, Mr. Juneau held senior positions with the Privy Council Office, Employment and Immigration Canada and Health Canada. Mr. Juneau replaces
C. Scott Clark, who was appointed Director in 2001. Minister Flaherty thanked Mr. Clark for his excellent work in representing Canada at the EBRD.
The EBRD was established in 1991 to support Central and Eastern European countries in transition toward a market-based economy. Today it is the largest single investor in the region, providing financing for banks, industries and new ventures, and promoting policies to bolster the business environment in countries committed to democratic principles.
