Clive Ireland's Submission in Response to Finance Canada's Regulatory Framework for Federally Regulated Defined Benefit Pension Plans consultation:
It has recently come to my attention that the above-mentioned Act makes no provision (except terminal illness) for the release of federally-controlled pension funds earlier than planned. I have heard of a former airline employee who is in danger of losing his home without the release of some of his pension funds. Most, if not all, provinces now recognize that there are many other valid reasons for such a release of funds. The federal government's paternalistic outlook on this matter seems very 'behind-the-times".
I urge you to take a careful look at the Act's approach to this matter, and consider changes to adopt a more open attitude.
